Hot Hot Heat
Hot Hot Heat is a rock band from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. The band is currently comprised of Steve Bays (vocals and keyboards), Paul Hawley (drums), Dustin Hawthorne (bass) and Luke Paquin (guitar). Hawthorne and Bays had been in many different bands together since 1995 and met Hawley in 1998. In 1999, Hawley bought a Juno 6 keyboard and asked Bays to try playing it, as no one else knew how. Hawley took over the drums from Bays and Hawthorne played bass. Matthew Marnik, who was a friend of the band, sang vocals. The band's original sound can be considered synthpunk.
The band soon changed direction to a more melodic, pop-influenced style, losing Marnik and adding guitarist Dante DeCaro. Strongly influenced by the New Wave sound of 1980s bands XTC, The Clash, and Elvis Costello and the Attractions, the new lineup, with Steve on vocals, quickly released a series of 7" singles and toured extensively in Canada and the American Pacific Northwest, joining up with similarly-styled indie rock bands such as Les Savy Fav, The French Kicks, Radio 4, Ima Robot, and Pretty Girls Make Graves, and opening for established Canadian rockers Sloan on a national tour.
The band's touring exposure attracted the interest of Seattle record label Sub Pop, who signed Hot Hot Heat in 2001, leading to the early 2002 release of EP Knock Knock Knock, produced in part by Chris Walla of Death Cab for Cutie. Although Hot Hot Heat got its start as a hardcore band, by the time it made contact with Sub Pop, its sound had mutated into what would soon be known as dance-punk. The band stood at the forefront of a movement that would explode on the indie rock scene within another year.[2] That release was followed up quickly by the band's first full-length release, Make Up the Breakdown, produced by Nirvana and Soundgarden producer Jack Endino.
That album quickly found critical acclaim, and its singles "Bandages" and "Talk to Me, Dance With Me" received regular airplay on MTV and radio, including influential Los Angeles, California station KROQ, on whose charts both reached No. 1.
However, their track "Bandages" was removed from radio in the UK, from the playlist at BBC Radio 1, in the light of the war in the Middle East. This was thought to have hindered its position at #25 in the UK charts. The track had been on the B list on the station, guaranteeing 15 plays a week and a potential audience of millions. It was removed because of a "prevalence of the word 'bandages' in the song", a spokesperson said.[1]
In 2003 the band re-released the 2001 album of tracks recorded prior to their Sub Pop recordings, Scenes One Through Thirteen, on the OHEV Records label. Reflecting the band's transition period between their original sound and the present, and thus very much unlike what fans had heard on Knock Knock Knock and Make Up the Breakdown.
In 2004 Make Up the Breakdown won "Favorite Album" at the Canadian Independent Music Awards by popular vote. Guitarist Dante DeCaro announced his departure from the band in October 2004, but stayed to complete their next album. That album Elevator, the band's major label debut, was released commercially by Warner Bros. in April 2005. Dante handed over to replacement guitarist Luke Paquin when the band started their 2005 tour.
Hot Hot Heat played an opening set for American synth rock group The Killers at Red Rocks Amphitheatre on May 17th, 2007. However, The Killers were forced to pull out after three songs because lead singer Brandon Flowers was suffering from bronchitis. It is not known yet if Hot Hot Heat will return with The Killers for the make-up concert in September.
The follow up to Elevator, Happiness Ltd., was released on September 11, 2007. In late March 2007, the band posted the song "Give Up?" on their MySpace page as a sample of the album, and it was released on iTunes as a single on May 15th. A second single entitled "Let Me In" was released on July 16th.
Hot Hot Heat recently wrapped up a tour with Snow Patrol as their opening act on the U.S. leg of their summer tour. Their headlining tour of Germany, Canada and USA started September 3rd, 2007.
"Let Me In" debuted on KROQ at number 8. On August 8, 2007, the music video for "Let Me In" premiered on Myspace Music. Also, on September 6, 2007, Hot Hot Heat posted their new album on their MySpace.
Hot Hot Heat opened for the "live rap" band Gym Class Heroes on Slope Day in May 2008 at Cornell University. They expressed a strong desire to join the Slope Day festivites, and were seen at a number of Frat Parties throughout the night.

All Time Low
The beginning of All Time Low dates back to when the members were in their freshman year at Dulaney Valley High School. It began when Jack Barakat and Marc Shilling met in class and realized they both shared an appreciation for pop music. Jack played guitar and Marc was a bassist/singer so they decided to throw a band together for fun. Jack knew a drummer from middle school, Yanni Giannaros (now of Baltimore band Four Fifty One), who would join them. These three met on weekends and jammed, playing mostly Blink-182 and New Found Glory cover songs. It was around this time that Alex Gaskarth decided to leave his previous band, Fire In The Hole. Jack managed to convince Alex to come play guitar and sing with the band. Now a foursome, the band decided on the name NeverReck, and began to compose their own songs. The first member change came when the band met Rian Dawson. His exceptional drumming skills coupled with his love for pop music were the main factors for Giannaros' replacement. After a few months of practicing, writing, and recording their own songs and covers, Jack, Rian, and Alex decided to remove Marc from the band because he could not practice as often as they wanted, among other things. In their search for new members, they settled on two members of the band The Coincidentals who were in the midsts of breaking up. These members included guitarist, TJ Ihle, and Chris Cortillio, on bass. They then decided to change the band name to All Time Low (named after a lyric in a New Found Glory song.) Ihle and Cortillio were in the band for two months before they decided to quit. Ihle currently plays in Maryland punk band The Pizza Monsters. Following the loss of the two members, the band took a small hiatus while attempting to look for a bassist. They eventually stumbled upon Towson High School student Zack Merrick. They began playing shows and making a name for themselves. Soon after Merrick joined they signed to acclaimed local label Emerald Moon Records. Their first four track EP, The Three Words to Remember in Dealing with the End, appeared on Emerald Moon Records, a regional record label. In July 2005, the band released their first full length The Party Scene.
In 2006, just months before Alex Gaskarth, Jack Barakat, and Rian Dawson graduated from Dulaney High School and Zack Merrick from Towson High School, All Time Low signed with Hopeless Records. Several months later the band released a new EP entitled Put Up or Shut Up on Hopeless Records, containing newly recorded versions of songs from The Party Scene along with two new tracks. After extensive touring and promoting to support "Put Up or Shut Up," the band began recording "So Wrong, It's Right" on April 18, 2007 with Matt Squire and released the album on September 25, 2007. Since the release, the band has gotten extensive amounts of success, such as being featured on MTV's Discover And Download, have been added to MTV's Big Ten, and been added to the MTV Hits playlist. The band is currently being managed by Matthew Flyzik, former frontman of the disbanded Maryland band Underscore.
All Time Low won the Energizer Encore Contest to play 10 minutes longer on the 2007 Warped Tour in Columbia, MD, Sacramento, CA, Barrie, ON, and Boston, MA.
They made their TRL debut on February 12, 2008.
All Time Low made their live television debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on March 7, 2008.
They made their live debut in the UK at the 2008 Give It A Name Festival supporting The Plain White T's. They are currently on a 2008 tour of the UK with Cobra Starship.
Between tours they are currently writing for their new album and have revealed in an interview that one of the songs will include ex-Blink-182, now +44 bassist Mark Hoppus.[1]
The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus
The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus started out as a local band in Middleburg, Florida, which is south of Jacksonville, according to The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus' official website. The name, "Red Jumpsuit Apparatus", was chosen by placing random words on a wall, and then blindfolding one of the members and choosing a few words. Some other names the band thought about using were "Umbrella Ninjas" and "Evil Slamina". (Evil Slamina being 'Live Animals' spelled backwards.) The band was unofficially started by Ronnie Winter and Duke Kitchens in 2001 after they had played together doing Blink-182 cover songs in AP music theory. It wasn't started officially until 2003. Shortly after the formation, the band finally broke ties with a fan who claimed to be their manager. The individual in question was blamed for attempting to steal credit and money from the band's early performances at small venues around Florida. Despite the difficulties, the early performances met with widespread acclaim, and the band's potential for success became apparent to music moguls.
The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus released an untitled demo with three songs in mid 2004. Immediately after they followed that up with their first EP the "Kins and Carroll" also in mid 2004. By the end of 2004 they added songs to their EP to complete a 12 song LP also untitled. In 2005 they signed to Jason Flom at Virgin records. Later in 2006 they released their first LP, Don't You Fake It with the singles "Face Down", "False Pretense", "Your Guardian Angel", and "Damn Regret", which was certified gold on November 27, 2006 by the RIAA for sales shipments exceeding 500,000 copies.[7]As of February 2007, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus headlined the US Take Action! Tour organized for the prevention of youth suicide, along with bands such as My Chemical Romance and Rise Against.[8] Their song "In Fate's Hands" (which was he name of Joey and Elias's previous project) is featured in the video game Madden NFL 07.
The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus Don't You Fake It Deluxe Edition (CD/DVD) was released on April 3, 2007. The CD features the album and two exclusive songs, an acoustic version of "Face Down" and a never released out of Australia bonus track "Disconnected".
In a 2007 interview with the Florida Entertainment Scene, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus teamed up with Virgin Records to raise funds for the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. They also headlined the Take Action! Tour which sponsors awareness against teen suicide and against animal cruelty.
As of June 2007, according to Billboard.com, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus have begun work on a second album that should be released in the summer of 2008.[9] The band was pulled out of their confirmed appearances at the Australian Soundwave Festival Tour 2008 by Label president Jason Flom who promised to have the band in the studio by February 1st, but didn't pull through citing the current faltering position of EMI's financial problems.
As of April 2008, the band began an acoustic tour the east coast in various locations with the group Amaru, who is from the same home town. Ronnie said that the tour felt like they were "Getting back where we all started."
